Marcus is an Associate in the firm’s specialist litigation and arbitration practice. Prior to joining the firm, Marcus worked for a criminal defence and regulatory barrister, appearing in Court on a broad range of criminal, regulatory and white collar matters.
Marcus holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Auckland. During his studies, he worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Auckland Law School, teaching Criminal Law, and was actively involved with the New Zealand Law Students Association as Treasurer.
His dissertation examined the admissibility of criminal conviction evidence at subsequent trials. Marcus has also authored a number of legal articles, some of which have been published in the New Zealand Law Journal.

Appearing on successful pre-trial challenges, including a challenge to the admissibility of prior acquittal propensity evidence, and a challenge resulting in serious methamphetamine charges being dismissed against a defendant prior to trial.
Assisting counsel representing WorkSafe on a successfully defended appeal (Eatim Ltd v WorkSafe [2024] NZHC 2824, (2024) 21 NZELR 156).
Assisting in a number of criminal appeals against conviction, sentence, and pre-trial admissibility rulings (incl Jago v R [2025] NZCA 507, JB v R [2024] NZCA 669, Vaitohi v R [2025] NZCA 122, [2025] 2 NZLR 708, and L (CA542/2024) v R [2025] NZCA 300).
Assisting counsel in a number of professional disciplinary matters, including matters before the Lawyers and Conveyancers Tribunal and the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal.
