Tommy is an associate in our specialist litigation and arbitration practice. Prior to joining the firm, Tommy was an Assistant Crown Counsel at Crown Law, representing the New Zealand Crown in significant matters before the Senior Courts, including the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, prosecuted at a Crown Solicitor’s office, and clerked for the Chief Judge of the District Court. Tommy draws on this depth of experience and his robust advocacy skills to achieve the best practical outcomes for clients. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Auckland.

    • Grinder v Attorney-General: Presented a portion of the respondent argument on a significant issue of statutory interpretation on a provision of the Parole Act before the Supreme Court.

    • Williams v New Zealand Police: An appeal clarifying the extent to which an offender is entitled to a sentencing discount upon registration on the CSO Register

    • Roberts v R: An appeal concerning the scope of inventory searches

    • R v C: Successful question of law Crown appeal against a Judge-alone acquittal; one of the first of its kind in New Zealand

    • G v New Zealand Police: An appeal following the first referral made by the Criminal Cases Review Commission

  • Tommy holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Auckland. His dissertation, Genetic Privacy and Abandoned DNA: The Missing Link and Proposals for Reform, was published in the 28th volume of the Auckland University Law Review.
